Additional Information

This is an in-person program.  Register to receive a reminder and any other resources.

In this program, we'll discuss how to remove lawns to turn the space into a garden, things to consider, and answer your questions about growing your own food, right in your front yard.

Victory gardens or food gardens for defense were food gardens created by civilians during World War I and II. Their goals was to supplement rations and boost morale.  These gardens used space in front and back yards to grow food where lawns and flowers grew before.

Today we turn our lawns into food gardens to supplement our groceries, boost our morale by being outside, and being able to see and eat tasty tangible results.

Presenter Information: City Street Farms is an urban farm in Regina, SK that was founded in 2021 by Miranda Holt & Candace Benson. We grow on front & back yards in the city's Lakeview & Cathedral neighbourhoods, where we transform lawns into gardens to grow vegetables & flowers. Currently in its fifth season, the farm is now operated by Candace and is focusing on cut flower farming.
