This somatic-based movement experience explores internal sensing and self-regulation as pathways to authentic movement, creativity, and self-expression. Together we will slow down, explore movement that is big and small, incorporate breath as an old friend, and move at a pace that feels pleasurable and supportive. Inspired by the work of Emilie Conrad, this class invites participants to discover movement from the inside out.

Ashley Johnson is a dance artist, educator, and somatic practitioner based in Regina, Saskatchewan on Treaty 4 territory. Her work explores the body in motion through intersecting practices in performance, teaching, and collaboration.
Ashley’s teaching and community practice spans schools, libraries, galleries, and rural communities across Western Canada and the U.S., with a long-term focus on accessibility and creative process. Her work has been shaped by mentorship with somatic movement pioneers Amelia Itcush (Mitzvah Technique & Itcush Method) and Emilie Conrad (Continuum Movement). Her recent long-term project, The Moving Heart, explores personal health narratives and embodied anatomy in collaboration with ceramicist Karlie King and toured galleries across Saskatchewan. She is currently collaborating with the Regina Early Years Family Resource Centre on a community-based project that explores how dance and music help us bond, regulate and stimulate joy.
Select performance credits include Rouge Gorge (Robin and Edward Poitras), Connie Moker Wernikowski, Los Angeles–based SOMAFEST (2014–18). With theatre artist Nicole Schafenacker, she co-founded the performance company Prairie House (2015–20).
A graduate of the Grant MacEwan Dance Program, Ashley also holds a BA in Dance from the University of Calgary. She maintains a private somatic movement practice in Regina, teaches with New Dance Horizons, and continues to create while raising two young children.
