For families. Celebrate Chinese New Year by learning more about the special day and participating in festive activity stations with presenters Grace Yang and Meng Peng.Additional Information
This program is part of the People in My Neighbourhood Series which is acknowledges and celebrates the diversity in our community.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn Mandarin greetings commonly used during Chinese New Year, explore the history and cultural significance of the celebration and discover more about the traditional dishes enjoyed during the festivities and their symbolic meanings.
Activity stations will include the following:
- Chinese New Year paper wall decoration
- Fortune cookie making with Chinese New Year blessings, both in Chinese and English
- Paper cutting with the Chinese word for spring
- Chinese zodiac design button making
About the presenters:
Meng Peng served the Ministry of Education in China for 17 years, specializing in organizing training programs for Chinese students planning to study abroad, and facilitating their return for entrepreneurial ventures in China. He is strongly interested in cross-cultural comparisons and communication. He used to study in the UK while working there. In 2023, he relocated to Canada with his wife and son.
Grace Yang, originally from China, has extensive experience working with international non-profit organizations. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree at University of Regina. Her academic interests include policy analysis, non-profit governance research, and related fields. Additionally, Grace and her husband share a strong interest in cross-cultural comparison and communication, shaped by their diverse cultural background.
