The Canadian Drawings

Wilson, Scottie (1990)

Scottie Wilson (1888-1972) was one of the most remarkable self-taught artists. His intricate drawings have been aligned with two movements in twentieth century art: Surrealism and Art Brut/Outsider art. "The Canadian Drawings" which toured nationally until 1990, is the first major study of Wilson during his years in Canada, the period in which he began to draw and develop his distinctive style and subjects. The drawings of this time are among the strongest of Wilson's career, sharing an expressive edge that is absent from the later, more decorative works. Introduction/Foreword: Peter White
