Situated indoors for its final iteration, the Art Shack plays host to artistic activity and creative discovery, encouraging community participation and exploration. Lane Shordee and Nikki Martens present their project The General Store: Willow Island Imports, inviting visitors to exchange objects, stories or social gestures in a non-commercial exchange for Culture Days and Regina’s first Nuit Blanche event on Saturday, Spetember 29, 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM. During its month in the gallery, the Art Shack will host other community activity and artistic presence.
The Art Shack was created in 2014 as a community engagement project with artist Heather Cline and students from Mother Teresa Middle School. The students worked with the artist for a month-long period to design and construct the Art Shack, which has been installed in from of Central Library for the summer months from 2014-2017. During the last four years, the Art Shack has hosted numerous artists-in-residence who have engaged with community.
