Laura St.Pierre: Rites of Future History
Additional Information
Part of Laura St.Pierre: Museum of Future History/Le Musée de l’histoire à venir
Please join us for the closing reception of Saskatoon-based artist Laura St. Pierre’s Museum of Future History/Le Musée de l’histoire à venir, featuring St.Pierre’s performance, Rites of Future History/Les rites de l’histoire à venir. Laura St.Pierre creates evocative large-format photographs and lush installations out of materials scavenged from nature and urban environments alike. She creates these works under the guise of two fictive characters: The Scavenger, who collects and assembles detritus from the outskirts of human civilization, and The Gardener, who collects, preserves, and cultivates plant specimens from natural environments under threat by urban sprawl, pollution, and the effects of climate change.
Rites of Future History/Les rites de l’histoire à venir marks the first live appearance of one of these characters: The Gardener will enter St.Pierre’s makeshift museum – an elegy to Saskatchewan’s northern boreal forests – and will attempt to bring the preserved plant specimens contained within it back to life.
