Creatures in our Midst

A search for animals in the architecture of downtown Regina.

Additional Information

Animals and monsters in downtown Regina? Is the circus coming to town, or what? No, Dunlop Art Gallery and the Regina Public Library Literacy Services and Children's department, have designed a self-guided tour to search for animals and monsters in Regina's downtown architecture. Everything required for this enjoyable, information-packed tour will be available at Children's Services in backpacks after June 29. Check it out with a library card. A key focus of Creatures in our Midst is literacy - visual, written and verbal. It extends the notion of 'museum' to include our environment and expands the definition of 'literacy' to include visual language. The input and participation of four adult literacy learners and their families has ensured that the materials in the backpack are clear, user-friendly and fun. Regina's downtown core boasts a number of remarkable examples of architecture and public art. Embedded in this rich visual environment are animals, elves and gargoyles - all you have to do is look, the kit will provide the information. Creatures in our Midst was organized and presented with funding from the Canadian Museums Association's Reading the Museum program and Regina Market Square.
