Micah Lexier: A Minute of My Time
Additional Information
Other associated events: Opening Reception and Artist's Talk by Micah Lexier Saturday, February 28, 8:00 pm Central Gallery
A Minute of My Time explores the passage of time and the transient nature of existence. The installation consists of a series of drawings that were each made in one minute. These drawings were then produced in a variety of media from acid-etched stainless steel, to prints, to chalkboard drawings. Each drawing is a literal tracing of one minute and is recorded as a document of the artist's existence. There has been, in the past, a contrast between the often intensely personal, autobiographical references in Lexier's work and their means of production. In this series, there is a shift to an emphasis on the hand or mark of the artist and represents a change in Lexier's approach to artmaking. The work embodies the artist's ongoing interest in the aging process and the passage of time, which we all experience. Lexier's previous works have explored the way we measure time in increments, from one year to a lifetime. This exhibition presented with the financial assistance of The Canada Council for the Arts.
