Susan McEachern: Questions of Nature
Additional Information

Susan McEachern's photography-based project asks the thorny question of how one acknowledges the competitiveness of nature, without surrendering her consciousness to the inevitability of social Darwinism. As disarminly straightforward as her categories within the exhibition are - "animals, trees, water, garden and reproduction" - her work frustrates a straightforward didactic interpretation, and gently dislodges for close examination, widely held yet powerful assumptions and values. As essayist Susan Gibson Garvey points out, McEachern "...refuses to edit problematic concepts out of her work - people are competitive, people are racist, and people do struggle for change."
