Momento Florae

Part of the Regina Public Library's 90th Anniversary celebrations, Momento Florae alludes to the Carnegie library building which previously stood on this site.

Additional Information

Maquette of Momento Florae

Momento Florae exaggerates a subtle phenomenon: how architectural forms are 'domesticated over time by renovations and 'updated' interior design. This architectural intervention conceived by London, Ontario artist Patrick Mahon, will be set withing the east facing glass foyer of the Regina Public Library as an aesthetic counterpoint to its entrance. The project involves students in the installation's construction (a special internship with the University of Regina). Momento Florae addresses the vernacular of architectural history: bridges a historical split between the ethics and aesthetics of the domestic decor and institutional/corporate design: and exploits the potential of the decorative to function as critique.
