Breathing Room

Installation by Regina artist Ruth Chambers and Montreal artist Karilee Fuglem.

Additional Information

Karilee Fuglem, cumulous, 2000, mixed media

For artists Ruth Chambers and Karilee Fuglem a preoccupation with the ephemeral is a means of investigating ideas connected to our lived experience. In Breathing Room, they explore the supple biological limits and subtle actions that inform our sense of the world around us. By contemplating the fascinatingly delicate act of breathing, the artists suggest that such intangible movement, matter, and emotions are integral to our existence. Breath is virtually intangible, yet it is a vehicle for words and life itself. Both Chambers and Fuglem explore the intangible that permeates our surroundings. These installations form a non-verbal investigation of the evanescence of life; a dream space of light and shadow; and an evocative exploration of the ephemeral negotiating the monumental. In Breathing Room Chambers and Fuglem construct an emotional architecture.
