In celebration of Regina's 100th anniversary, this exhibition illustrates how artists have viewed their home over the years. This individual mapping of place utilizes diverse formats and unique sensibilities, as artists create personal, subjective views of their city. How do cities look and feel to those who live and work in them? Visually articulated by the culture it contains, the Regina urban experience is defined by the opinions of those who reside here. The city environment is the site of historical, political, emotional and even climatic encounters. Unique demography give cities their character. These reflections are given concrete expression in this exhibition. Works have been selected from the public collections in Regina (Regina Public Library, Saskatchewan Arts Board, MacKenzie Art Gallery, City of Regina). Public collections, perhaps more than individuals, provide the collective memory of a community's cultural development. These collections also examine individual achievement over time and are powerful records of neighbourhoods and public spaces, some of which may no longer exist.
