Bob Boyer: Local Hero
Additional Information
Other associated events: Opening reception Friday, January 21, 7:00 pm
This exhibition is a tribute to Métis artist Bob Boyer who was born near Prince Albert in 1948. In 1971, Boyer graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Education degree in Art Education. Boyer worked in a variety of media and is probably best known for his "Blanket Statements" in which he used blankets as a painting surface. In his work, Boyer combined traditional design patterns of the Northern Plains Cree people with elements inspired by more contemporary painting. The exhibition presents works from local collections in celebration of an artist admired and respected. Boyer lived in Rouleau, Saskatchewan with his wife Anne and was a Professor and Department Head of Indian Art at the First Nations University in Regina (formerly the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College) since 1981. Bob Boyer passed away August 30, 2004 while dancing at a PowWow in Nebraska.
