The exhibition Resisting Arrest: Seeking Sustainability presents works by six Saskatchewan-based artists: Lee Henderson, Rory MacDonald, Kim Morgan, and Robin Poitras, who reside in Regina, and First Nations collaborators Lynn Acoose and Elwood Jimmy, who join us from Yorkton. The exhibition also features a performance/installation work by visiting artist John Dummett, who hails from London, England. The works in this exhibition engage with several fields of thought, from the livestock industry and animal husbandry to urban planning and non-renewable resource management. They utilize a range of production and presentation modes, from ceramic sculpture and video projection to temporary installation and live interactive performance. The exhibition presents some works within the gallery proper and also others, outside of the white cube, in public spaces in downtown Regina, such as the City Hall plaza and Victoria Park. Aspects of these art works invite visitors to become actively involved with them - and actively involved in the issues or discourses which they treat. By identifying viewers as active forces with agency, and by inviting them to influence and participate, the exhibition aims to implicate its audience members in the community's sustainability efforts. The Resisting Arrest: Seeking Sustainability exhibition will be accompanied by a brochure and a souvenir Saskatchewan centennial celebration postcard set.
