In 2007, David Hoffos will complete Phase 4 of his magnum opus, an extended series entitled Scenes from the House Dream. The individual works in this series offer views of haunting nocturnal mise-en-scène inhabited by restlessly moving figures. The various scenes' moving elements are achieved using projections into the detailed miniature models. A unique sound score is integral to each work in the series. In combination, the Scenes from the House Dream evoke an illusory cosmology, a dream world inhabited by anxious ethereal creatures. Suggesting desire, or protracted longing, they evoke undefined apprehension and anxiety. The artist's construction methods make his means evident. This demystification of means frees us to be involved with the illusion itself. David Hoffos presents four new Scenes from the House Dream at Dunlop Art Gallery. David Hoffos has been exhibiting work since 1991. Born in Montréal in 1966, he currently resides in Lethbridge. His film, video and installation works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the USA, and Europe. In addition to Dunlop Art Gallery presentation, works from Scenes from the House Dream series will be exhibited in 2006 at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, and the Prairie Art Gallery.
