On loan to Dunlop Art Gallery from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the installation work Still Life with Rotting Fruit (1996) predates the Scenes from the House Dream series, yet its form and means foretell David Hoffos' current project. Still Life with Rotting Fruit achieves the illusion of movement in real time using time-lapse photography transferred to video, with the video projected onto a life-size 3-D cutout construction detailed by glow in the dark visual effects. The cutout construction is set on a table within a black-box theatre space. A curtained door provides viewing access to the scene. Audio and aural effects accompany the visual imagery. Lethbridge artist David Hoffos has been exhibiting work since 1991. Hoffos received a BFA with Great Distinction from the University of Lethbridge in 1994. He is the recipient of grants awarded by the Banff Centre Studio Residency Program, the Alberta Art Foundation for the Arts, and The Canada Council for the Arts. David Hoffos is represented by Trépanier Baer Gallery in Calgary.
