Winnipeg artist Daniel Barrow will present a multimedia installation composed of a new DIY performance at Sherwood Village, Trying to Love the Normal Amount, 2008. Trying to Love the Normal Amount is an adaptation of one of the chapters from the acclaimed Barrow performance, Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry. The installation allows the gallery viewer to perform themselves, with the aid of a TV monitor providing instruction, similar to a karaoke machine. The interactive output of overhead operations and monitor instructions can be discerned as a large wall projection, which also incorporates another background layer of imagery from a DVD operated by video projector. The DVD plays with an original musical score by Greg Goldberg. The exhibition will also be accompanied by five new drawings depicting scenes from the DVD piece.

Barrow was one of the short-listed artists for the 2008 Sobey Art Award. This installation and performance were both presented in the Sobey Art Award exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, from August 27 to October 13, 2008.
