Rober Racine & Louise Bédard: La soeur de Salomé
Additional Information
La Soeur de Salome is a hybrid dance performance and art display over the course of three days at Dunlop Art Gallery. This project has been organized by New Dance Horizons and features two critically acclaimed Montreal artists: the writer, musician, visual artist and performer Rober Racine, alongside the dancer and choreographer Louise Bedard. The story of Salome's Sister "is inspired in part by the death of John the Baptist as recounted in the Gospels according to Mark and Matthew, but more particularly by an apocryphal legend whereby Salome died traversing a frozen lake. The ice gave way, and she fell in the water up to neck. Ice then formed around her neck, leaving her head exposed as though on a silver platter."
New Dance Horizons is celebrating its 26th anniversary in 2012 and Artistic Director, Robin Poitras continues to produce and present exceptional dance works from across North America and Europe. Louise Bedard established her Montreal-based dance company in 1990, Louise Bedard Dance (LBD), and through it she has developed a "choreographic language that portrays human complexity and fragility." Rober Racine's artistic oeuvre dates back to the 1970s and includes an incredible range of musical, literary, dance and visual art creations. In 2007 the Government of Quebec granted Racine the Prix Paul-Emile Borduas for his remarkable contribution to cultural life.
