From What Remains posits links between aesthetic and scientific methodologies. Jason de Haan (Calgary, AB), Kerri Reid (Sointula, BC), and Kara Uzelman (Nokomis, SK) infuse data (in the form of found objects, often gathered from remote or specific sites) with poetic and speculative meaning via material transformations, replications, assemblages, and texts that mimic scientific processes, but also suggest that a kind of alchemy or magical transformation has taken place. These transformations conflate past, present and future, imbuing the artists’ materials with implied narrative and potentiality.

Jason de Haan is a multidisciplinary Canadian artist. de Haan earned his BFA at the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2006, and recently completed an MFA at Bard College in upstate New York. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and his solo exhibition, Noghwere Bodili is Everwhere Goostly is touring Canadian galleries through 2014. He is represented in Canada by Clint Roenisch Gallery.

Kerri Reid is a visual artist originally from Vancouver. She lives and works in Sointula, BC, where she and husband Tyler Brett co-direct the Sointula Art Shed, a small artist residency/studio/project space. They also play music together as The Department, with recent shows in San Francisco, Saskatoon, Dawson City, and in Bruno, Saskatchewan for Seniors Appreciation Day.

Kara Uzelman’s work has been included in exhibitions throughout Canada, France, and Germany. In 2004 she graduated from Emily Carr and has since completed a mentorship in Archeology at Simon Fraser University and participated in residencies in Canada and France. Uzelman lives in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, and is represented by Sommer & Kohl, Berlin.
